After the races in june, Fabio Jakobsen is the new leader in the Sprinters ranking. He took over from Jasper Philipsen. Both have a considerable lead over the rest of the top sprinters. In the Mountain ranking, Jonas Vingegaard increased his rating to the top 3, and Ben O’Conner jumped to the fourth position.
Cyclists with different specialties can make it to top of the world ranking. In this article I make an estimation which specialties are more important to explain the variance in number of world ranking points. The hill quality is the most important determinant to explain the variance. The climbing skill is getting more important and the time trial skill is getting less important.
Inequality between cycling team did increase, mostly because of growing differences between WT and PCT teams. This is caused for the biggest part caused by the best climbers and GC-riders who went from PCT to WT teams and little less by the best hill specialist and time trialists. Within WT teams the main reason for growing differences are sprinters who are now more concentrated in the best WT teams.
